Spartan Land Works
Heavy-Duty Brush Cutting
When a bush hog can't handle it anymore. Our skid steer brush cutter takes down thick brush, saplings, cedars and trees up to about 8 inches across.
Brush that's gotten ahead of you
Give a Mississippi field three or four years without mowing and it stops being a field. Sweetgum and cedar saplings come up, privet fills the gaps, and blackberry and greenbriar tie it all together. A tractor and bush hog will bounce off most of it. That's where a skid steer brush cutter comes in.
Spartan Land Works runs a heavy-duty, high-flow brush cutter on a compact track loader. It's built to cut and shred woody growth that would stall or break a pull-behind mower, and it reaches into wood lines, ditches and slopes where a tractor can't go safely.

Not sure which you need? Our guide on bush hogging vs. brush cutting breaks it down. If your property is mostly grass and weeds, regular bush hogging will cost you less.
Common brush cutting jobs
- Overgrown pasture and hay fields being brought back into use
- Wood lines that have crept 20 or 30 feet into a yard or field
- Undergrowth under hardwoods, so you can see and walk through the woods
- Ditch banks, drainage areas and pond dams that have grown up
- Hunting land: shooting lanes, trails and food plot edges
- Vacant lots that need to be shown to buyers
What's left behind
The cutter shreds most brush into mulch that stays on the ground, protects the soil and breaks down over a season or two. Heavier pieces can be gathered with a grapple and piled, moved or hauled off. We'll talk through which finish you want before we start, and it'll be in your written estimate.

Common questions
What size trees can a skid steer brush cutter cut?
Ours is rated for trees up to about 8 inches in diameter. Anything bigger is handled as tree removal.
Is brush cutting the same as forestry mulching?
They're similar. Both cut and shred growth in place. A forestry mulching head grinds larger material into finer chips. Our brush cutter is heavier than a bush hog and handles most overgrown land in this area at a lower cost than full forestry mulching.
Will brush cutting kill the brush for good?
Cutting sets it back, but many species like privet and sweetgum will resprout from the roots. Regular mowing afterward, or a follow-up cut the next season, keeps it from coming back thick.
Can you cut brush on a steep hill?
Often, yes. Tracks handle slopes much better than a tractor or wheeled machine. We'll look at the grade during the site visit and tell you honestly what's safe.
Do I need to be home while you work?
No. Once we've walked the property together and marked what stays, you don't need to be there. We'll check in when we start and when we finish.
